Storm-damaged trees are routed differently from routine pruning because the first question is whether people, structures, vehicles, or access areas are exposed to an immediate hazard.
If a tree or limb is touching or threatening utility lines, stay clear and contact the utility or appropriate emergency service. Do not approach suspended limbs, partially failed trees, or energized lines to take photos.
Tree or large limb on a roof, garage, fence, vehicle, or occupied area.
Broken limbs or tops hanging in the canopy or partially supported by another tree.
Uprooting, sudden lean, trunk split, or major structural change after weather.
Address • whether anyone is in immediate danger • what the tree is contacting or threatening • whether utility lines are nearby • whether access is blocked • photos only when they can be taken safely from a distance.
Cracks, cavities, dead branches, lean, root changes, or canopy decline can be routed through the tree-risk assessment page when there is no immediate failure.
