Prune for structure, clearance, and the tree that remains.
Tree pruning is not simply making a canopy smaller. The cut location, branch weight, clearance need, defect, species, and season all affect what should happen next.
Create appropriate separation from roofs, siding, walks, drives, and high-use areas.
Deadwood & Defects
Remove selected dead, damaged, rubbing, or poorly attached branches when appropriate.
Canopy Management
Reduce selected weight or redirect growth without defaulting to indiscriminate topping.
WHAT WE LOOK AT FIRST
Species, branch unions, trunk defects, targets below the canopy, roof and utility proximity, previous cuts, equipment access, and the reason the property owner wants work done.
A pruning recommendation should explain what will change and what will intentionally remain.
NOT EVERY TREE NEEDS TO BE ‘THINNED OUT.’
Over-pruning can remove useful canopy, trigger unwanted growth, and create new structural problems. The point is to solve the actual clearance, defect, or structural concern—not make every tree look equally sparse.
